Human Subjects

The UCSC Institutional Review Board (IRB) exists to protect the rights and welfare of persons who participate in research programs conducted by UCSC faculty or staff. The IRB has responsibility for review of research involving human subjects conducted at or sponsored by the University of California at Santa Cruz regardless of the source of funding.

The Office of Research Compliance Administration assists researchers in interpreting federal, state and University policies regarding human subjects research, and provides administrative support to the IRB.

Assurance Number:The IRB operates under Federalwide Assurance number FWA00002797, which is effective though January 31, 2014.

Protocol Submission:Protocol forms may be submitted through email to orca{at}ucsc.edu. Original, signed protocol forms may also be submitted through campus mail at UCSC Mailstop: Office of Research/IRB.

Exempt IRB applications may now be submitted electronically through eProtocol. Click here for more information.
